Is it just you for the weekend, and you want to do something exciting? Or are you planning a solo trip and want to find ways to make it memorable with thrilling activities?
Then, this post is for you. A compilation of adventure ideas for newbies to experienced thrill seekers, you can in fact do things by yourself.
I am a solo traveler myself, and I have compiled a list of activities you can do alone for any occasion you are on.
Just a disclaimer: This list of activities combines things I have tried alone with activities from my bucket list. I hope you will get ideas to get you excited about your day ahead!
Beginner-Friendly Adventure Ideas At Home
So, you are stuck at home. Maybe you only have a couple of hours to burn, or you can’t afford to spend time somewhere else. No worries, there are plenty of activities you can do at home.
1. Eat dinner under a candle light, only
The easiest thing you can do at home is to do your daily activity with a different approach.
This one is the perfect example. Eating dinner under candlelight, with no electronics, just natural light, is a sure way to romanticize your life, too.
How? Well, you definitely need a candle and a light. A dinner and a table. Don’t forget a drink in a fancy cup.
2. Walk out the door when it is pitch dark
Most of the adventures you can do at home would be at night. Because the night, the moon, the stars, or the cloudy dark sky adds an ominous sense, anything you do will be thrilling.
With this, I want you to turn off all the light at your home. Make sure it is almost midnight. If you think it is safe, open your door, and just walk for a bit and stand there, in front of your door, at almost midnight.
It is fun, I do it sometimes when I haven’t left home in a while.
But, here I am, assuming that you live in a safe neighborhood and you live in a house.
You can do this safely if you have a balcony, or a backyard.
3. Put a blindfold on, and clean your home.
If you have never put a blind fold on and tried to walk, you might think this is not a big deal.
I thought I could handle it easily. But no. I was so wrong. When I challenged my self to clean my room with a blindfold on. I started to panic. And I wanted to remove the blindfolds so bad.
But be careful. If you think you are clumsy, first remove any sharp objects. I can handle sharp objects blindly. Can you?
4. Hide in your home
This might sound a little bit odd. Because it is.
As an adult, the only reason you might want to hide is from danger. But there are none, so why need to hide?
This breaks you away from your daily routine. For early morning, you might make your breakfast, place it on the table, prep your tv or phone to watch things like the news or Netflix. And you probably have more routines for each of the hours of your day.
So by picking a spot where you would normally would not stay or even sit, gets you out of this routine.
Look for a closet, or a pantry, or under the table, and just sit, and hide. You are not expecting anyone or anything, you are just sitting there.
5. Dance
Close down the curtains, put your favorite song, be it hip hop or classic. Then, just let your body move.
This is a great to remove excess tension in your body.
It is weird how as an adults we have more things to worry about than we were kids.
When you dance, that tension is released and you feel a lot more happier like you would after any adventure.
Spontaneous Adventure Ideas
Sometimes, I get this instant urge to want to do something different, like today, pops up. I call this a spontaneous adventure activities where you are not required to plan ahead of time. You can do them alone, and you can do them safely.
6. Take the unpaved path and hike
Go to a nearest park, and hike until you come across an unpaved path. And start walking down there.
The unpaved path usually looks like it was formed by other hikers.
The thing that is exciting about this is that you will never know where you will end up it, or what you will find.
With these hikes, you will come across pitch forks, and you will have to decide, should you go to the right, or left, or back.
It is always fun.
7. Roadtrip and Car Camping
The great thing with road trips is that you can just pack snacks, a sleeping bag, and water and dress appropriately for hiking.
This is all you have to do. Then, pick the nearest park, go and park, and spend the night there.
You will have the comfort and the safety of your car. It removes the extra layer of needing to plan ahead, as you would for camping.
8. Picnic
A low-stress adventure that’s all about you. How about a that?
You don’t need a fancy basket or much time to plan for it. Just pack up your favorite snacks, grab a blanket and that book you have been meaning to read then head to your local park, backyard, or even your balcony.
This is all about indulging in some quality “me time” and enjoying your own company.
Plus, it’s a great way to get some fresh air and vitamin D while practicing self-care. So why not give it a try and see how peaceful and rejuvenated you feel afterward?
It’s a simple but satisfying solo adventure that’s well worth the effort.
9. Look for random Structures in the forest
Forests are like deep oceans, you won’t know what you will find there until you do.
There is always something out of place in the forests. Sometimes, you will find random structures hidden amongst the trees.
If you get lucky, you might even find an abandoned treehouse or a forgotten ruin.
10. Look for random objects in the forest
Just like looking for random structures, you can definitely come across random objects just placed there.
I am just going to warn ya here. Some people do some voodoo stuff in the forests. When you see something in the forest, just acknowledge it and then leave it alone.
Don’t bring no negative energy back to your home!
11. Climb a tree
When I was younger, I used to climb trees and pick out fruits to eat.
Well, back then, we had backyards with fruit-bearing trees, from apricots to cherries. Now I live in the urban area, where trees are young and small, and cannot be climbed.
But that is because they are in the city, I just have to go into park or look for big trees.
They are sturdy, they are strong, no need to worry about their wellbeing. But you do need to worry about their stability though.
12. Geocaching
I always want to look for treasures, and I still do. Although you might need money, time and patience to look for existing lost treasures, you wouldn’t need one if you are looking for geocaches.
There is an app called Geocaching. Although you are not hunting for treasures that you can keep, you are looking for containers where you will get to write your name to indicate that you found it. And then you put it back where you found it, so the next person will find it.
What is exciting about this is that you will be given riddles or clues about the location and do some brainstorming to find it. Exciting!
13. Do random “parkour” when no one is around
As we get older, we worry about what others might think of our behavior. I certainly do. So I just choose to do things where no one is around. Free from judgments or commentary.
Jump over something, climb a short wall, anything you can think of doing, try it. But be careful as not to pull your muscles. Look for an obstacle and overcome it.
All the fun is seeing what kind of obstacles you can find and how you can creatively navigate them.
Sure, it may seem a little crazy to be jumping and flipping around when no one else is around, but that’s what makes it so exhilarating.
14. Run through a forest trail
With the cool breeze in your face and the sound of leaves rustling from the wind, this outdoor adventure idea will surely get your heart pumping.
Running through the forest on your own can be a great way to clear your mind and focus on yourself.
Who knows, you may even discover hidden gems and secret spots along the trail that you never would have found otherwise.
15. Ride a bike
Grab your bike, and go without a map.
You don’t have a bike? Fortunately, you can rent one. There are e-bikes too!
Outdoor Adventure Ideas
16. Go bird watching
Chip chirps, and you are looking around to see where the sound is coming from.
You try to guess if you know the bird type. You are closely looking for it, on the trees, in the bushes or somewhere else.
And you finally see a red feathered bird in the top of the trees trying to call the others. (Maybe, I don’t speak red bird language)
17. Forest Bathing
You bathe in water, you bathe in the wind, and now you can bathe in the forest.
What this adventure activity really means is that you go into the woods and you let yourself get showered by the sound of trees rustling, by the smell of forest air, by the presence of creatures that call forest home.
Yup, a tree-hugger vibe.
18. Climb a mountain or high hill
Nothing beats the feeling of seeing the world from the apex.
Locate the nearest high-altitude mountain and start climbing.
Climbing these types of mountains or hills does not mean needing ropes and special tools. You will need them for the next one.
19. Rock climbing
To climb a rock, you need skills, if not really good equipment.
Rock climbing is like the ultimate problem-solving challenge you will put yourself through.
Most cities have climbing walls that you use, paid mostly. But they will have instructions, tools, and others so you can climb walls with ease and safely.
20. Staycation
Don’t have the money and the time to plan an international trip? Don’t worry, no need to plan a trip that far away and spend your savings.
Book a stay in one of the nature resorts nearest to your home. Pack your bag, turn off the gas, stove, and lights, lock your door, and go into that resort and just relax and enjoy nature.
A vacation near home.
21. Long-distance Road Trip
I have mentioned a spontaneous road trip, where you just pack stuff, get in your car and go. But these on-the-whim trips will not last long.
This option is for planning long-distance road trips. Why not plan a cross-country road trip? Check out the most mesmerizing sites in your country. Traveling with your car, you will have the freedom to stop, re-route, and add new destinations.

28. Snowboarding
Snowboard in the mountains covered in snow. This is one of the famous activities thrill seekers do during winter.
29. Explore Caves
This one is definitely scary. I will be honest: I have not ventured into the cave alone, but it is possible.
I am including this because if you want to explore caves, choose popular caves. So you will explore it with other strangers.
30. Treetop adventure
This one is FUN!
Even though you have a harness on, and you are logically aware that even if you fall, you will not die, your legs will share to be that high!
I highly recommend you try this if you haven’t done already.
